Very cool.', 'Of course the Male Broad-Billed made frequent appearances through the day.', 'Ice running through her veins, patience in her finger, and love in her heart - the remote release lady, Liz Van Horn, checks the controls', 'Sheri records our guy\'s song.  She noticed a variety of species (B-Billed and Anna\'s) in the voice.  With no other violet crown around, it mimics what it hears.', 'Broad-Billed hangs out behind the scene.', 'The Hybrid at an aloe.', 'A local TV news guy was on site filming a piece for a music fest to be held the following day.  He took an opportunity to interview Sheri about the hummer.  She is explaining the capture process.', 'Hybrid perching and feeding.', '', 'Aloe (uncertain of the species) must have some great juice.  It fed there quite often.', 'He also enjoys Turk\'s Cap.', '', 'The violet crown shines.', 'A wonderful poser.  Work it!', 'Showing an interest in the feeder.  Tom was not sure if it would go to the feeder with all the natural food around.  There was also an Anna\'s chasing it off.', 'He really attacked the base of the flowers.', 'After a failed initial drop on the hybrid (he\'s quick), Liz calmly waits for him to become comfortable.', 'He\'s settled in nicely.', 'Captured!', 'Tom gently grabs him.', 'Then bags him.', 'Tom passes to Sheri.  I must say that the banding team demonstrated a total love and respect for the birds, through words and actions, the entire day.  It was a joy to observe.', 'Sheri explains some typical Violet Crowned behaviors this hybid is exhibiting.', 'I think he\'s just hoping he\'s not going to be eaten.', 'Leg band is attached.', 'I was very impressed with how sure handed and confident Sheri is at this task.  My guess is that she has done this a few (hundred!) times.', 'She is so gentle and calm with the bird.', 'Now for the measurements.', '', '', 'The whole time Sheri is talking to the growing crowd about her findings.', '', 'She is blowing apart the feathers to look for fat reserves used during migration.  They were present.', 'Sheri maneuvers the bird into various positions to do her photo documentation.', '', 'Does he look a bit annoyed?', 'He was a very good sport.  Sheri says they are much calmer than any other species during the banding process.', '', 'The weigh in.  I didn\'t catch the weight, but I think it was large enough that it could possibly overwinter at the BTA.', '', 'After giving it food from the feeder, Sheri reaccquaints the hummer with its favorite food source.', 'Waiting with open palm for the bird to fly away.', 'Seconds before lift-off.', 'The male Broad-Billed took advantage of the Hybids hiatus to enjoy some Turk\'s Cap.  He was usually chased out.', 'The star\'s triumphant return.', 'This is only the 2nd recorded sighting of this hybrid combination in the past 100 years, if I got my facts straight.', '' );
